Is ther e some FAQs around for networking?

I have a local net (not conntected to a router) and need to know what to put
into the "Network" and "Broadcast" variables so I need to understand what
these mean.

The IP Address of the network and the related broadcast address. You can
calclate both from your ip-address and netmask. You take your IP-Address and
overlay it with the netmask. The part which is masqueraded you take
unmodified, the other part will bechanged: to all-1 for the broadcast and to
all-0 for the network:

1.2.3.4  netmask 255.255.255.128

0000001.00000010.00000011.00000100 / 11111111.11111111.11111111.1000000

Broadcast: 00000001.00000010.00000011.01111111 aka 1.2.3.127
Network:   00000001.00000010.00000011.00000000 aka 1.2.3.0
