Problem writing to Samba share, please help

Post by TheGnome » Sun, 20 Apr 2003 02:43:52

I can see my share from a Win 2k box just fine but when I go to save any
file, in this case test.txt to the share I get the following error appearing
on my Win 2k client:

e:\text.txt
you do not have permission to open this file
see owner of this file or an administrator to obtain permission.

How can I fix this problem? I'm using Red Hat 7.2 and the latest version of
Webmin.

Thank You Very Much!

Make sure:

1) you have file and directory level permissions on the linux box to
actually write to this area.  It may be Samba independent at that point.

2) add the writable = yes to the smb.conf for that share.

3) you may want to do something similar to the following:
        force group = mygroup

        create mode = 770
        directory mode = 770
         # make sure that the user connecting is in the group "mygroup" in
/etc/group
        # you can restrict this by user by reworking the rules appropriately
