PoPtoP vpn server

PoPtoP vpn server

Post by Michael Clar » Thu, 26 Sep 2002 06:43:15

I am doing some testing using a poptop vpn server in trustix linux kernel
2.4.19.  I have the server sitting on our network here then I dial into the
internet and then log into the vpn server with windows xp.  That all works
fine but once I am connected things seem to run slower than normal.  I am
using the remote gateway so I can understand that things would be a little
slower.  but, for example when loading a web page, sometimes not even all of
the page will load up.  This trustix server is running as a linux router/nat
box for our internal network here at work.  So, by connecting to the vpn
server it allows me to access our internal network remotely.  Is there any
reason things like this would be running slower than normal?  are there any
setting in poptop that I can modify to make it connect better?

1. PopTop VPN Server can see Win98 client but client can't see server

My friend and I are trying to setup a VPN using a Slackware 7.1 Linux
machine running PoPToP
as the VPN server and we are trying to connect to it with a Windows 98
machine using dial-up networking
as its internet connection.  The Win98 client can connect with no
errors to the server
and the server can see and ping the client, but the client cannot see
or do anything to the
server or any of the machines behind it.  Has anyone had this problem?
 I believe that it
has something to do with the VPN setup on the Win98 client...We are
using Win98 SE so the VPNUPD.exe
does not work with it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
