Postfix blues

I Just upgraded my Mandrake 6.1 to Mandrake 7.0-2.  It came with postfix
instead of sendmail.  I think that I almost have it right but not quite.

I can send mail out from the server but when mail comes in I get a "unknown
mail transport error." and a "malformed response" message.

Here is an example out of my maillog file:

Any Ideas?  Thanks!

You might want to grab the sources from http://www.postfix.org/ and read
the installation documentation.  The installation process isn't all that
difficult, and knowing how the system is set up is a good thing.  If that
fails, there is a postfix-users mailing list where you can get specific
help.

I've seen this before, but I don't recall why - there are archives of the
mailing list pointed to from the Web site.  You might want to do a search.

You can also add some verbosity in /etc/postfix/master.cf for both master
and local and see if that shows any more detailed information.

In my case, the newaliases command was updating the /etc/aliases.db
not /etc/postfix/aliases.db.  Since the /etc/postfix/aliases.db didn't
exist, postfix was crashing.  On my system this seemed to work:

mv /etc/postfix/aliases /etc/postfix/aliases.orig
ln -s /etc/aliases /etc/postfix/aliases
ln -s /etc/aliases.db /etc/postfix/aliases.db

1. postfix DNS blues on Solaris

I've installed postfix (I used the latest version, but also tried some
earlier ones) on Solaris 2.6. Reciving mail works fine, as does sending
to an address whose domain is explicitely specified in the transport

not specified in the transport map, the mail is not sent out, and the
syslog says:

(Name service error for domain domain: Host not found, try again)

This is the case regardless of the domain I choose.
DNS access works fine, I can successfully look up the MX using nslookup
-qt=mx domain. /etc/resolv.conf secifies a single DNS.
/etc/nsswitch.conf specifies for hosts file and dns (no nis).
Using snoop I could verify that postfix does not even contact the DNS at
all!
My suspicion is that it actually tries to get the domain's MX using
NIS?? However, I haven't configured NIS, it's not being used.

What's going on? I'm really puzzled. Has anybody experienced that
phenomenon, and maybe has even solved it?
Any hints would be welcome.
