broadcast ping doesn't work

Post by Eckhard Gra » Thu, 10 Aug 1995 04:00:00

Hello,

can anybody explain the following behaviour and tell me what to do to
make broadcasts running? I am using the latest slackware release, kernel
1.2.11.

pc1:~# ping 132.195.255.255
PING 132.195.255.255 (132.195.255.255): 56 data bytes
ping: sendto: Permission denied
ping: wrote 132.195.255.255 64 chars, ret=-1

thanks

E.Grah

1. Broadcast ping doesn't work?

How come I can't ping a broadcast address in Linux?  If I try, I get:

PING 134.22.81.255 (134.22.81.255): 56 data bytes
ping: sendto: Permission denied
ping: wrote 134.22.81.255 64 chars, ret=-1
ping: sendto: Permission denied
ping: wrote 134.22.81.255 64 chars, ret=-1
ping: sendto: Permission denied
ping: wrote 134.22.81.255 64 chars, ret=-1

Isn't that supposed to work?
