: Would be nice, if my Linux machine would look to them like a
: LaserWriter directly at the net. I got the CAP package, but all I
: found was the opposite: printing on a real AppleLaserWriter by UNIX
: lpr.
CAP also provides Mac users with access to Unix printers and file
systems. I've used CAP (on a Sun) to provide both printing and file
servicse with both Mac System 6 and System 7. It does take a bit of
work to get it all installed and set up.
: Also I'm not sure if CAP+Linux can handle EtherTalk phase 2.
I don't remember either.
: What's on my mind is: using ghostscript to talk directly
: to the requesting Mac and feeding the bitmap to the printer.
If you can set up a print queue under Linux that can handle postscript
files (Ghostscript is one way to do that), then you can use CAP to
provide printing services to Mac users via ethernet -- the CAP lp
server appears as just another ethertalk printer to Mac users.
