LPD <-> HP JetDirect problems

LPD <-> HP JetDirect problems

I think I am experiencing a problem similar to another which I read about
some time ago (no solution ever appeared).

I have a Linux box (rel. 1.2.3) providing spooling services for several
computers; the box is ethernet-connected to a JetDirect card. When MORE
than one print job is in the queue, ONLY the first one gets actually
printed (all the jobs appear correctly in the queue, though). I didn't go
through a detailed analysis of packet flow yet, but I observed that if the
box is connected to the JetDirect VIA an RS/6000 box, then ALL files get
printed. This makes me conclude that probably JetDirect is somewhat
non-standard in its behaviour, and the RS/6000 lpd is somewhat more
tolerant than the Linux one. I couldn't find a fix.  Anybody got any idea?
Thanks a lot!!!
