Ethernet Initialization

I have just installed Redhat 5.0.  At boot, I get a message "Delaying
eth0 initialization".  How can I get the ethernet to initialize?
Thanks.

 This can happen when the HW driver can't find the card. Try to
recompile the kernel with the drivers you heed, do not use the shipped
kernel as-is.

No need.  Just add a module for eth0 using RedHat's custom module
configuration.  Then make sure inetd is one of the services that get
started at boot time (you may use the command 'setup' and select ntsysv
to add inetd among other services).

You may want to recompile your kernel (just because, but not because of
your failed eth0 init) to 2.0.32 as RedHat ships with buggy 2.0.31.

Hope this helps

1. ethernet initialization with boot floppy

With my normal boot floppy with old kernel image getting loaded from the
floppy, everything works fine, but I recompiled my kernel and did a

boot=/dev/fd0
root=/dev/hda2
image=/boot/(new image)

and ran lilo with a new floppy.  Using the new floppy the ethernet
device doesn't get initialized (SIOCADDRT: invalid argument, or
something of the sort during bootup.  Actually after booting with the
normal disk I saw the same message too.). I know the problem isn't the
image cause I did the same thing with lilo using my old image and the
card doesn't get initialized there either. What files during bootup
initialize the ethernet card? My normal boot floppy has /etc, /boot,
/dev, /lost+found, and the kernel image in /. My new one has a
/lost+found  and the kernel image.

By the way I did a 'make zdisk' with yet another floppy and the same
thing happens as with the second one.
