kernel 2.4.19

recompiled kernel

iptables -L
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)

iptables -t mangle -L

iptables: libiptc/libip4tc.c:384: do_check: Assertion `h->info.valid_hooks
== (1 << 0 | 1 << 3)' failed.
Aborted

lsmod

if I start the computer using the system default kernel, everything is fine.

You should update the iptables user space programs.

In iptables-1.2.6a following comment can be found:

    } else if (strcmp(h->info.name, "mangle") == 0) {
       /* This code is getting ugly because linux < 2.4.18-pre6 had
        * two mangle hooks, linux >= 2.4.18-pre6 has five mangle hooks
        * */

So your version of the iptables program is basicly too old, and does not
accept 5 hooks to exist.

(do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.
