how to get linux to recognize network card?

Post by Thomas L McCourry -- Personal Accou » Thu, 25 Jan 1996 04:00:00

I have a Racal Interlan card which uses the AMD LANCE chip.
How do I get linux to talk to my ethernet card (a lance card)? When I
boot, I get a message on the screen:

        Jan 23 09:13:33 larry kernel:
lance.c: PCI bios is present, checking for devices...
but no other messages about ethernet, etc. If I run tcpdump I get
        the following message:

        tcpdump: no suitable device found.

Thanks,

1. getting Solaris 8 on x86 to recognize a network card

I installed both a Linksys LNE100TX and a USRobotics 7900 card on my system.
The hardware configuration screen said it recognized that I had installed an
ethernet controller.  But when I use 'ifconfig -a' the only address listed
is the loopback.
The linksys card is listed on Sun's hcl.
Help - I'm stuck!
