Printing via Samba from Linux to Win95 non PostScript printer -problems

Post by mike » Sat, 11 Nov 2000 04:00:00

Hi,
presently, I have my Canon BJ-20 bubble jet on my Win95 machine
and have been trying to print from my Linux Redhat 6.1 machine.
I have gotten the printer to print, but it is not printing properly.
It is possible that Samba is trying to send a PostScript file to it,
so it does print something, but it is not printing properly.
I think that the file somehow needs to go through a filter
that does the conversion, but I don't know how to set it up.
I am looking for some tutorials that can explain more about
doing it.
                                                     Thanks
                                                            Mike

1. Printing on non postscript printer (+ via Samba).

Hi there,
Could someone give me a useful link or some advice on how to manage to
print from Solaris x86 to a non postscript printer connected to some
Microsoft environment ?

I've managed, with Samba, to connect to my remote non postscript
printer. But, of course, if I print it fails because it's not
postscript.
There's probably some way to manage that using Ghostscript to do the
"translation". But I'd need some help on that : how to set up the filter
? how to make Solaris understand all printing job on remote non
postscript printer must first be translated then sent to printer ?

Thanks...
