Darwin Streaming Server on RedHat Linux

Hi,

Did anyone try the Darwin Streaming Server on RedHat 6-2? It looks like
a very promising video streaming server to me.

However, we have tried to stream a hinted MOV movie in 640x220 pixels.
When we run a QuickTime client in Windows-98 in a local Fast-Ethernet
environment, we suffer a packet loss of up to 15% occasionally. We are
only using one client and using RTSP protocol.

Is there a maximum limit on the resolution of a single MOV it could
stream? I am sure Fast Ethernet should be able to support more than one
of those streamings smoonthly.

How is the 640x220 movie compressed?

At 640 wide, it's a large video file regardless of streaming, and that
could be the problem right there, ie the frame size does not travel well.
Have you had better luck with regular sized files (320x240)?

They claim about 1000 streams of normal material, probably 320x240
Sorenson.

There is also a load/stress testing tool included with the server, I
believe.

I'm trying this server on SuSE 6.4. How did you get the rtsp:// to
kick-in? I can't actually get a file to stream, they just download fully
first. If I enter rtsp://

1. Darwin Streaming Server on Suse or RedHat Linux

Has anyone here tested the Apple Darwin Server for Linux yet? I am searching
for an alternative to Real Server. The Darwin system sound quite interesting
but I was not able to find a compiled version for quick testing. Therefore I
would be interested to know if Darwin is worth trying.

The idea is to publish a live conference via Linux. We have an iMac with
Quicktime Sorensen to do the production work. The Linux server would have
the responsibility of offering the streaming data to the web.

Thanks for your help!
