Very Computer

I have a strange problem:

My mail system seems not to be able to _send_ mail

I receive messages :
... (transient failure)
....
... Deferred: Connection timed out
during initial connection ...
...

Receivin mail is OK.

I am using Slackware 2.2 with all the stuff involved.

Can anybody help or point me to the appropriate newsgroups
