I want to get SLIP running on my Linux at home.  I have a
slip account at my university (where the slip server is) and
I can dial up and get a dynamic IP address.  The problem I
am having is with dip.  When I invoke dip I don't even get the
dip prompt.  Instead I get an error message which reads:

        simple: host name lookup failure

(My hostname is 'simple'; I'll probably be changing that soon).

I was wondering if any one could suggest a solution to this error.
I installed my linux way back in the days of the 0.99 releases
and I'm wondering if maybe there's some config file somewhere that
needs to be fixed.  I'm running kernel 1.0 with SLIP and TCP/IP
configured in.

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.  BTW, I read the
whole NET-2-HOWTO, which is a really good document, but found
nothing on my problem.

simple: remove the "get $local simple" line (dip tries to
get the local IP number for this host in /etc/hosts or else) and put a line
like "get $locip remote" in the script where you expect the
IP number being sent from your provider

so long

1. DIP, SLIP, and connecting to the outside world

Here's my problem:

I try to use dip to set up my SLIP account access but after SLIP
or CSLIP mode is enabled, I can't connect anywhere, only thing I
can do is ping the gateway machine, I can't ping the name server
or even my own machine!!

Can somebody clue me in to what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks,
-Aure
