Dear Friends,

I have setup my SAMBA system and read several books on the setup. I am
running redhat5.0 and am trying to intigrate with a NT4.0 network. I can see
the RH server and when I try to access it, it displays the username and
password prompt. When I type in my username and password, it reply's This
account is not authorized to logon from this station.

Any ideas as to what I can do to allow access from all stations ?

Thanks for all of the help !!!!

When you uncompressed the Samba source (unless you used an RPM, in which case I
recommend you get the source and uncompress it so you have the docs), a
directory structure like /usr/local/downloads/samba-1.9.18p10 was created.
Look in the directory samba-1.9.18p10/docs and read the two files "WinNT.txt"
and "ENCRYPTION.txt."  They will talk you through the "why" it doesn't work and
the "how" to make it work.

Don't be a weenie and apply the registry hack to the NT machines.  Set up Samba
to use encryption.

NT 4 sends encrypted passwords.
You can change this by making a new entry in the NT4 registry ...
this is described at :

http://www.suse.de/Support/sdb_e/samba_crypt.html

You could either change your NT to user plain text passwords or change
your SAMBA to accept encrypted password but in this case you would have
to convert your passwordfile so that it could be used by SAMBA. all this is
described in the page above.

1. Samba : cannot access Samba server via NT Domain.

Hi,

I've setup samba to the best of my knowledge.
I can see the machine from a NT machine but cannot access it.
Does not accept password.
I'm using the same username and password on the linux machine and the NT
domain. I know I must be missing something somewhere.
and I'm losing my hair at a rapid rate.

Can somebody help me please, I'm getting desperate.

I'm also getting an error when i try to mount to a machine on the NTdomain.
"cannot resolve mount.....  /share", this is more than likely the cause to
all my problems.
