Ethernet: getting DEC21040 compatible (Dlink DE530) going....

Post by Fraser Hutchinso » Sat, 22 Feb 1997 04:00:00

Hello everyone.

I have a Dlink DE530 card that I need to install on a 1.2.13
kernel (Redhat).

Now, I have ratfm... and it informs me that this card should
use the DEC 21040, and I quote:

DE 530
  Status -- Supported

This is a generic DEC 21040 PCI chip implementation, and works
  with the generic 21040 driver.

See DEC 21040 for more information on these cards, and the present
  driver situation.

well,  I look at 21040, and it says:

You have a choice of two drivers for cards based on this chip. There
is the DE425 driver discussed above, and the generic 21040 driver
  that Donald has written...

oralso the tulip driver.

Well, here is the problem:
  - the de423 driver does not work (the How-to states that it probably
  wouldn't work for non-DEC cards),
  - I cannot find the (generic) 21040 driver,
  - I cannot get make config to offer me the tulip driver.

How can I get this card to work.......

BTW, this card flies under Windows 95 on the same system......

Thanks in advance for all help,

Fraser

Hi Sir,
D-Link DE530..setup into the linux.
It would have any problem. You can change to DE500(use Digital Chip 21041).
It will ok..

Hi Suncht.

Thank you for your reply.

I take it you installed your linux with the DE500 option?  I need to be
able to rebuild the kernel with this option, and cannot find it.

Thanks,

Fraser
