Problem with 3c900b-combo card

Post by John Forkos » Fri, 23 Aug 2002 22:49:53

Hi, [reposted from c.o.l.m. -- this group might be more relevant]
     I have a 3c900b-combo ethernet card,
hooked up with the 10base2 bnc media.  This
is the only ethernet card in the machine.
My Slackware 8.0 /etc/rc.d/rc.modules
files is modprobe-ing the 3c59x driver
with an options=3 argument.  And, sure
enough, the driver emits the "Media
override" message, showing bnc.
Problem is, of course, it ain't
working.  Pings to/from other machines on
the lan fail both ways, as explained below.

Below are four groups of diagnostic messages
(I can post any others you feel might help):
The first two, (a) and (b), show boot messages
from the 3c59x module when it's loaded, and
then the corresponding lines from /proc/pci
after the boot is complete.  (Seems okay to me,
but I don't understand much beyond irq.)
The third group (c), output from netstat -ie,
contains lots of rx overruns. Every time I try to ping
this machine from another, the ping fails (all packets lost),
and the RX OVR count bumps on this machine.  (So something's
happening, although apparently a bad thing.)
The fourth group (d), gets re-emitted both in /var/syslog
and by dmesg, every five seconds or so.

Any ideas what might be wrong, and how to correct it?
Thanks.
