Some problem with inn+suck

Post by Oscar Manuel Gómez Senovill » Wed, 15 Aug 2001 07:08:10

I use potato and have updated to the latest binaries at their site. I
use inn (not inn2) + suck to get some newsgroups, and I have realized
that sometimes (I couldn't determine how or when) when I locally post
some message, it doesn't spool (there's no spool file at
/var/spool/news/out.going), and when run the get-news script (always a
script the does it as "news" user), there are no errors, gets the
messages from the server but posts nothing. I have found that if I
restart inn, there's spool file and now works, but only until some time
the get-news script is run. I have tried to "touch
/var/spool/news/out.going/<file>, but though the file is created (and

the spool, and looking at the logs I see nothing interesting. And all
posted articles are stored locally, and I can read them perfectly, which
allows me to copy and paste to repost, but this has to be fixed.

What is exactly going wrong here?

TIA

1. Problems with INN, suck, and NNTP

I am trying to configure my system to use my ISP's NNTP server to feed my
local news feed.

I have installed INN and suck and can sucessfully GET articles from my
ISP's NNTP server without any problems, using suck.

I cannot, however, find a way to SEND articles to my ISP's NNTP server.  I
have tried using both rpost (which comes with suck) as well as nntpsend
which comes with INN.  Neither one works... nntpsend reports that it is
ignoring each line in /var/spool/news/out.gowing/news.midusa.net (which is
the batch file for my ISP).  rpost seems to just lock up...

I was wondering if anyone has been able to get either rpost or nntpsend or
another method of sending articles to an NNTP server.

I really would like to use INN rather than something like leafnode, b/c I
hope to add some things in the future that I want to use INN for
specifically.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated!  Thanks.
