Toshiba PCX1100U cable modem connected via USB in Red Hat 8.0 Linux

What do I need to do in order for Linux to recognize this as my
ethernet interface i.e. something equivalent to ETH0? BTW, I've
disconnected
the line to my NIC and the USB cable to the Toshiba PCX1100U is the
only connected cable for external network access.
