CNET PRO120 aka Macronix 98715/tulip

Can anyone confirm that the CNET PRO120 aka Macronix 98715/tulip
actually works under Linux (2.2.10/Suse6.2)?  I've got it built
into the kernel (I tried it both ways, the one that uses the "tulip.c"
and the "tulip_new.c" driver, no difference).

At bootup, it apparently sees the card, and prints:

tulip.c: v0.90 10/28/98 becker etc.
eth0: Macronix 98715 PMAC at 0x400, 00 80 ad 98 16 46, IRQ 9

But at the instant that the kernel passes this point, the link
light goes of (on the card and on the hub) and never comes back
on.  The eth0 interface actually comes to UP-RUNNING, but it never
actually works.  Am I in some wierd nether state between supported
and not supported?  Any suggestions?

Thanks - Ed

I've seen tulip-new.c on a SuSE system, but nowhere else -- SuSE seems to
have been trying to add support for a frequently-requested update to a
standard driver without breaking the old one, in case more standard
behavior were needed. I've no used that driver much, though; I downloaded
and used the driver from:

http://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/linux/drivers/tulip-devel.html

I've used this on both a PNIC-based Linksys board and a Macronix-based NDC
SOHOware board. I've not used a CNET PRO120, so I can't promise it'll work
on that board. (Even if I had used that particular board, there are
sometimes driver/Ethernet board/motherboard interactions that are hard to
predict.) I recommend you try the latest driver and see if that works. I
do recall seeing other posts about your board, though, so if you continue
to have problems, try a Deja News search (http://www.deja.com).

1. Macronix 98715 net card

Hi,

I have a network card Cnet with a macronix chip 98715.

I use kernel 2.2.1 with tulip.c v0.89H

When i load tulip module the link led switch off on the card

when i diag the card with tulip_diag, here are the results :

Index #1: Found a Macronix 98725 PMAC adapter at 0xfc00.
Macronix 98725 PMAC Tulip chip registers at 0xfc00:

 Port selection is 10mpbs-serial, half-duplex.
 Transmit stopped, Receive stopped, half-duplex.
The Rx process state is 'Stopped'.
The Tx process state is 'Stopped'.
  The transmit threshold is 72.

Rx and TX are stopped.... why ?

i tried all module options.... nothing !

Should i change the net card ?

Thanks
