ADSL Modems

Is it possible to use 2 DSL modems to connect two computers
over POTS lines with the need for DSLAM at the telco office?

Or can they be used with a direct (NO TELCO) CAT-3 wire
connection?

No. The transmit and receive frequencies are the same and will only talk
to the DSLAM frequencies. Good luck.

Client DSL modem is different then the DSLAM modem, so you cannot simply
hook up two client DSL modems back to back over dry copper.

Some companies, such as Net to Net sell single channel DSLAM that does what
you want to do. Net to Net is interesting because it is pure Ethernet the
DSL link does not use ATM.
