I've installed slackware with kernel 2.0.0 without incident. Now I'm
trying to get the network card setup. I've read all relavant HOWTOs,
Linux Unleashed, Linux Network Administration, and Running Linux. I've
rebuilt the kernal with tcp/ip and the SMC drivers but something is
still not right. The card itself is NOT faulty, on the same machine
running NT, Win, and DOS the card works fine. There is soft setup of
the card possible but I've manualy set IRQ and RAM on the card and it
works.
In Matt Welsh's book (chapter 7) is several clues on the possible
solution but I'm missing the key (maybe it's to obvious) ANYway I
would like to: "booting via LILO with the command Lilo: linux
ether=3,0x280,0,1,eth0" At present I don't believe the card is being
detected properly. I'm on a LAN at work with this machine.
How do I do that? what are those numbers after the irq and the ram?
I'm booting off a floppy now until I get everything worked out and get
around to installing lilo; in the literature on setting up lilo is no
clue on this command. Is it something that goes in the kernal or
where?? What files need to be edited and how?
Thanks for any advice,
