Neighbour Table Overflow

Neighbour Table Overflow

Post by Mohsin Sh » Sun, 10 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I have just setup my Redhat 6.0 system and am receiving an error when I
try to ping another host. The error is " neighbour table overflow ". Any
thoughts what might be causing this?

PS. The nic I am using is a 3c509 and it appears to be recognized.

Regards

I'm not going to be much help but I got the same thing with the same
card.  It went away with 6.1, though.

Strange thing is that I can ftp, ssh, rsh, etc TO another box but cannot
FROM the other box.  Yes, I know how to set up connecting boxes, but
this is weird.

The other box has a 3c905 card in it.

I'm thinking the switch is almost ignoring the 10BT when it's initiated
from a 100B but goes through if initiated from the 10BT.

More investigating to be done.

NO, it isn' the driver for the card, just installed (as module) the new one,
but no change...

I'm getting the same thing on a 2.2.12 kernel with a 3c509 and an
ne2000.  I think both are giving the error.  In my case, I can ifup the
card and the network will work perfectly for a while but then suddenly
all traffic will stop and I'll see the log is filling up with these
errors.  I can ifup the cards again to solve the problem but it always
comes back.  I think it happens only to the card facing the cable modem
but I've switched them around and it still happens.  I'm running
practically nothing (no nfs, httpd, etc) on this machine.  Also, I had
both these cards working in this machine with a 2.0.X kernel.  If you
find out anything, please let me know.
