Cheap NE2000 clones?

Get an Addtron card.  The ISA's run $20 -25 and work with no problems
under Linux kernel 2.0.27 (probably works with older as well), '95,
and NT 4.0 all on the same machine (all recognize it).  It's what most
of us in SILUG (http://www.silug.org) are using.

I havent sucessfully gotten either of the three cheap NE2000 that ive tried
in my machine to be recognized by linux. Though all three are functional and
worked with other operating systems.

Can anyone reccomend a NE2000 clone in the $20-$30 US dollar range that works
with RedHat 4(colgate) kernel 2.0 ? Ive got both ISA and PCI slots avaliable...

I'm using a Genius GE2000II and it works great under RHL4.0.  The GE2000III
should work as well.  These cost <$30.

Matt;

A friend and I are both running the 16-bit ISA CEI NE2000 clone ($24)
on PCI/ISA-bus machines with kernel 2.0.27. The trick is to use the
DOS-based setup utility to address them up at 0x340 with IRQ=10.

1. Cheap NE2000 clone worth it?

I was wondering, is a cheap NE2000 card worth it?  I know that you can
get them for $25 or less.  Do they have a decent speed on 10Base-T?  If
they do, which brands are reasonably reliable?

Would it be better for me to get say, a $40 Kingston EtherX PCI card instead?

Thanks,
Herman Lau
