SSH troubles with .rhosts and .shosts

Post by Nicolas MENOU » Wed, 23 May 2001 19:08:02

Hi,

I've got 2 machines working with RH7. I've put in the /root/.rhosts an
/root/.shosts files of my first machine (server) a line related to the
second machine (client) :
192.168.0.40  root
I've put also in the /etc/hosts.equiv and etc/shost.equiv a similar line
But when I try to ssh to the first machine from my second machine as root,
I've to enter password. Does someone could help me.

Thanks a lot,

You might like to check out the documentation, because there is an option
within the "rlogin" system which prevents a remote rhost connection to root
without a password.  If you want to enable this, you must pass the "-h" flag
to the rlogind daemon.  This tells the system to permit the user of a .rhosts
file for the superuser.  A quick look at "man rlogind" will provide you with
all the details.

See ya

You need to look at /etc/ssh/sshd_config
Can't remember off the top of my head, but the default behaviour
I think is to ask for passwords.  Find the line that looks something
like PasswordAuthentiction and turn it off (make sure RSAAuthentication
is turned on)
