ipfwadm used with PPP/dynamic IP addressing?

Post by Michael D. Knig » Wed, 26 Nov 1997 04:00:00

I'm using PPP to connect with my ISP.  I have a dynamic IP address.
I'm also trying to get xosview to work using the "bytes in/bytes out"
meter.....

The readme for xosview says to use ipfwadm and gives an example, but
apparently it needs an IP address specified.

My problem is that I can't run ipfwadm on startup because I don't have
an IP address.  I guess I could write a shell script that would
extract the assigned IP addresses and pass them to ipfwadm, but that
seems like a pain.

Has anyone else dealt with this issue?

I was able to deal with this by using the ip-up script, or it's equivalent
with diald. These are called with parameters for your IP address, netmask
and othe things that'll get set with dhcp.

Read up on the PPPd and diald documentation for details.

1. Anyone using Mobile-IP combined with PPP and dynamic IP address ?

Has anyone tried to use Mobile-IP combined with PPP and dynamic IP
address ?
(maybe it's not possible at all)

I would like to integrate my Linux Workstation at home, connected via
PPP
and dynamic IP address to the internet, into the Linux network at work.
The network at work consists of a server with a register domaine name
and two
eth interfaces, one for the outside, and one for a local network.
IP-masquerade
is used to allow local workstations the internet access.  I would like
to see my workstation at home as one of these local workstations, if it
is
online.

I tried something with tunl0 interface (as described in NET-3-HOWTO),
but
i had no success.

Is there any way to do this ?

Thanks for any help!
