DEC 21140 (tulip) @ 100Mbit ??

Post by Paul J Form » Thu, 25 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Has anyone gotten a 21140 to work at 100Mbit?  I've got two boxes runing
kernel 2.0.0 (also tested w/ 2.0.7) with 21140 cards.  One has a Digital
Fast EtherWORKS PCI 10/100, and the other has a Cardware Labs CWL9512.
Both run fine at 10, but won't work at 100.

Summary of tried steps.

Straight compile.
Explicitly set TULIP_100TP_PORT in tulip.c
Tested all connections w/ a known good 100Mbit (3c595) machine.

Any ideas?

Have you tried the DE4X5 driver instead of the TULIP?  That worked for me
using the DEC card.  Auto-selected speed and everything.

DEC 21140 (tulip) @ 100Mbit ??

The Tulip device driver will not work in 100 base-t mode with the
DEC DE500. The DE500 requires setting bits in CSR 12 to enable 100
Bate-t mode. The Linux Tulip device driver is not aware of these bits.

The Tulip device driver is capable of functioning with other 21140
based boards (non-dec). See the Tulip device driver for information.
I have not tested the tulip driver with any of these non-DEC boards,
but I understand from others that it does work.

I tried the 4x5 after reading another post.  On the CardWare it seemed to
auto-select 100, but then wouldn't quite work.  Even gave me a *
clicking sound as it cycled repeatedly from 100 down to 10 and back.
I'll try it on the DEC, but since these are eval systems I'll probably
just buck for 3c595's when we get the real ones.

Thx,

1. Problem with tulip based card (DEC 21140)

I have a problem installing 2.2.7-RELEASE.
When I boot the install-image my Accton card autoselects 100Base-T,
but out lan is only 10 Mbit. Is there a way to force the card to
10Base-T?
