Will Linux and Novell network happily?

Will Linux and Novell network happily?

Post by Michael Morris » Sat, 26 Aug 1995 04:00:00

Howdy,

I need to set up a network that connects the following:

PCs running Windows for work groups,
PCs on a Novell network,
Couple a linux boxes
Couple a SGI boxes.

The Unix machines are already networked.

I ftp'd samba and have been reading about SMB for the windows PCs.

Does anyone have info about hooking together the Unix network with
the Novell network.  We just want to share some printers and send
e-mail back and forth.

Thanks,

mike

For Printer sharing you can use the Novell NFS package which will let
you access print queus from UNIX <-> Novell.  A quick and dirty
solution for mail (and it's also free) is use a POP client from the
Novell to get  and send mail from a central UNIX mail hub. There are
enough client around.

Setup TCP/IP on the Novell-net. Then ( buy and ) install Novell's NETWARE
NFS. It provides NFS-services as well as printer-sharing.

1. Linux Network conflict with Novell Networked PCs

Hi,
I have sucessfully(?) set-up the ethernet for my linux PC with
one problem. Everything works fine in my PC; I can access the
network without any problems. However, I get "Address conflict..."
messages on my console. It turned out to be my machine is interfearing
with PCs in the library that are connected through Novell network.
The sys. admin. says my machine seemed to act as a Novell server
and causes troubles to the PCs in the library. He said I may
need to turn off some daemon process that is responsible for the
conflit. However, I don't seem to be able to find such a daemon
running.

Can anyone shed some light on this?
Sorry I could not give you the exact error message appears on the
screen since my machine's network is disabled for now because of
the conflict.

Thank you,
