Whenever I try to execute either sendmail or httpd (version 1.5 - the old
version 1.3 works) I get an error: httpd: can't load library
'libgdbm.so.2'

I can't find any evidence of this file anywhere? Where can I get it?

It's in the standard Slackware 3.0 distribution: d6/libc.tgz.

But there is a bizarre error in the install/install.sh script
for libc.tgz .
It links libgdbm.so to the wrong library;

cd usr/lib ; ln -sf libgdbm.so.2.0.0 libdbm.so.2.0.0
