I kept getting similar messages on with a 3C507 fitted in a 386SX.
(2.0.30 at first then 2.0.35)
The problem was fixed by using the 3C507.EXE program which can
be downloaded as part of the Etherdisk 3C507 drivers disk.
I booted into DOS, and used 3C507.EXE to set the card into Turbo Mode
Linux was fixed, the Windows for Workgroups installation didn't
complain (despite reading on the Microsoft site that turbo mode
doesn't work 100pc).
