Anyone using 3C507 (3Com EtherLink 16)?

Hello world,

I am using a 3C507 (3Com Etherlink16). And very often (esp during large
transfer) I will see the following error message on my Linux box

eth0: Rx unit stopped, status 5220, restarting.

What is this mean? I have see this error message since I first using
Linux Kernel 1.2.0 and even up to 2.0.36 I still see this error... I run
the 3Com diag program on the card and all test passed.. and I wonder if
there is a 'bug' in the 3c507 driver code...
Any ideas, comments?

Derek

Derek,

If things work okay except for the error message, you could edit
/usr/src/linux/drivers/net/3c507.c
at line 63, add this line:

#define NET_DEBUG 0

that should be right above the line that says:
/* use 0 for production, 1 for verification, 2..7 for debug */

that will turn off the "Rx unit stopped..." message (as well as others).

Hope that helps,
  J J

Anyone using 3C507 (3Com EtherLink 16)?

I kept getting similar messages on with a 3C507 fitted in a 386SX.
(2.0.30 at first then 2.0.35)

The problem was fixed by using the 3C507.EXE program which can
be downloaded as part of the Etherdisk 3C507 drivers disk.

I booted into DOS, and used 3C507.EXE to set the card into Turbo Mode
Linux was fixed, the Windows for Workgroups installation didn't
complain (despite reading on the Microsoft site that turbo mode
doesn't work 100pc).

1. 3C507-TP (EtherLink 16 TP) ???

So, has anyone here gotten this card (3C507-TP EtherLink 16 TP) to
work? I tried it on 2.2.7, then upgraded with my 2.2.8 subscription
CD, but still I get:

        Dec 23 21:05:12  /kernel: ie0: unknown board_id: f000
        Dec 23 21:05:12  /kernel: ie0 not found at 0x300

I even tried changing the '0x300' entry to '0x360' as seen in LINT
(without changing the irq entry), but still the device is unknown:

        Dec 23 22:20:19  /kernel: ie0: unknown board_id: f000
        Dec 23 22:20:19  /kernel: ie0 not found at 0x360

The cards are both printed and stamped with the above 3Com
identifiers (3C507-TP / EtherLink 16 TP).

Any suggestions?

It should work, right?

Please Advise.
