Hi,
I am new to both linux and networking, but I have read the NET-2
HOWTO, other howtos, and scanned through postings to this newsgroup but
still can't solve my problem
The problem is, when I type
#dip -t [or just dip]
I get the error message
unknown server error
My goal is to run slip from my home using a single modem and no network
cards or such.
I've already:
1. Configured the kernel saying yes to all network options as in the
NET2-HOWTO.
2. Ensured that the daemons syslogd, klogd, lpd, and etd are running
by looking at processes in top.
3. Made sure the rc.inet* files in /etc/rc.d look like NET2-HOWTO
suggestions
4. Ensured that I have the dip program. Version 3.3.71.
Hardware and software specs:
Gateway Pentium 90 with telepath II 14.4. modem
slackware 2.2.0, linux 1.21, dip-3.3.71
By the way, I should probably mention that when I recompiled the kernel
(to include network configurations), at the beginning of the recompilation
there was an "unknown server error" also. Is this and my problem related?
What am I doing wrong/what else is needed?
Thank you,
Chris Tantillo
