Netatalk printing to apple printer

Netatalk printing to apple printer

Post by Dr. Jonathan E. Sno » Wed, 27 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I'm using SuSE 6.2...

I set up appletalk printing as described in various sources,
and still have no luck printing to appletalk printers. the
printer is demonstrably online and alive and findable with
nbplkup. I can print on it by cat'ing a file directly to
ifpap, but I can't convince lpd to do the same. It doesn't
appear to be writing to the ifpap filter. It just spools
the file to the spool directory and goes to sleep. Oddly, it
also never writes to the log file either, but does find the
spool direcotry just fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here are my files:

        - printcap

lwp-140|AppleLW 600dpi_GEO (Raum 140, Appletalk):\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lwp-140:\
        :lp=/dev/null/:\
        :lf=/var/spool/lpd/lwp-140/log:\
        :if=/usr/lib/atalk/filters/ifpap:\

        :tr=:cl:sh:sf:

        - Spool directory (with dormant print job)

Netatalk printing to apple printer

Quote:>I set up appletalk printing as described in various sources,

i can tell you exactly what is wrong. The filters are symbolically linked to
the wrong files. find out where the filters are actually installed and link the
filters to that. The default installation of netatalk is wrong. Also did you
create a .paparc file for each printer and did you edit the papd file in
/etc/atalk to advertise your printers to th erest of the network. Inside linux
that is not necessary. Email me and I will help walk you through this even
though I haven't done it since spring. I spent about 60 hours on this unitl a
gentleman in england bob Jones pointed me in the right direction.
