3Com Impact IQ ISDN Modem!

3Com Impact IQ ISDN Modem!

Hello there,

Anyone out there who knows how to get the 3com Impact IQ to work on a
Linux Box.

I tried for a few days now and can't get it to connect proper...  I can
dial and all but as soon I get to the login it will just freak on me..

Are there any special settings I have to set with it..  Is there any
special driver available that I need to get it working proper...

I can dial just fine with my 56k modem no problem ....  I modify the
init string on the IQ and I get an OK back no problem there..    It
almost seems that my   ppp sessions starts just a bit to soon...

Any help  would be great ...   Thanks

Harvey,

I just got my 3Com Impact IQ to connect under Linux to
Bellatlantic.net, after 10 days of frustration. It worked fine in
Win95. Assuming you have your options and pap-secrets files set up ok,
then you need to focus on the initialization string.

What finally worked for me was this ppp-dialing script:

----------- snip -------------------
#!/bin/sh
#
# chatscript from Linux PPP Mini Howto
#
exec chat -v                                            \
        TIMEOUT 3                               \
        ABORT           '\nBUSY\r'                      \
        ABORT           '\nNO ANSWER\r'                 \
        ABORT           '\nRINGING\r\n\r\nRINGING\r'    \
        ''              \rAT                            \
        'OK-+++\c-OK'   ATZ\Q3V1S60=64S61=2S71=1        \
        TIMEOUT 30                              \
        OK              ATDT3778359                     \
        CONNECT ''
----------- snip -------------------

The key, I think, was the S71=1 setting, which is not a default, but
forces what 3Com's AT listing on their web site calls "Async-Sync PPP
conversion."

In any case, once I did that, I was able to log on with both
B-channels blazing.

Good luck,

Ollie

P.S. Most of the setup can be guided nicely by the Linux PPP Mini
Howto.
