Compaq Armada 6500 and Xircom Ethernet

Post by Paul » Tue, 13 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has successfully attempted to install Linux on the
Compaq Armada 6500.

I have installed RedHat 5.2 2.0.36 and KDE with XiG display drivers.. but am
unable to get the internal network card to work.

PCMCIA drivers are installed and apparently working as I can get a PCMCIA
SCSI card to function.  The Armada comes with an internal 55.6K modem and
10/100Mb ethernet card as standard.  To my understanding these devices are
integrated into a Xircom RealPort combo modem/ethernet card.  Although this
card is not removable as it is integrated somehow into the back of the unit.

There are two type II PCMCIA slots free on the unit as well.

I have read the PCMCIA docs on setting up this device under Linux.. but
nothing is detected by cardmgr or the pcmcia drivers.

Can anyone help?  Many thanks appreciated!

1. Compaq Armada 6500, builtin Xircom NIC problems

Hi

Compaq Armada 6500
Builtin "Xircom CreditCard Ethernet 10/100 + modem 56"
(CEM 56)
FreeBSD 4.6
rc.conf  enable_pccard="YES"

Doesnt work : says
pccardd "driver allocation failed for .... : Device not configured"

google of the above returns lots of links to uk site about this
specific config. however the site is down (or dead or whatever...)

any help much appreciated

and.. it works like a charm under Windows 98SE
and.. pccardc dumpcis says a lot that seems ok... but there is no way
i can dump the output to this machine.. no ether, no floppy :-)

regards and TIA
