I recently setup a RH6.2 linux box to route the internet to other
machines in my network. I used ip forwarding without masquerading
because my isp account gives me five ip addresses. Everything is
working fine except now the transmit/receive light on my ISDN T/A
constantly flashes - even when there should be no traffic (not surfing,
etc.).
I use the following command to log into my isp account:
pppd connect 'chat -V "" ATW2 OK ATD1234567 CONNECT' /dev/modem 115200
crtscts defaultroute noauth user jdoe
and I have the following in my /etc/ppp/pap-secrets file:
jdoe * "mypasswd" *
I tried using 'tcpdump -i ppp0' but that gives me no output - so it
looks like there is no data going out through ppp0. I do get lots of
stuff on the screen if I go to a web page.
pppstats -w5 gives me the following:
ROOT> pppstats -w5
IN PACK VJCOMP VJUNC VJERR | OUT PACK VJCOMP VJUNC
NON-VJ
3023987 152874 260 57 0 | 2231019 152909 318 54

so it's not a whole lot of data and it doesn't seem to slow down
downloads but it just annoys me to see that light flickering for no
apparent reason.
Anyone have a clue as to what this could be? Any help suggestions
appreciated.
Thanks,
Martin
