RedHat 7.1 (kernel v2.4.2-2) and Netgear FA311

RedHat 7.1 (kernel v2.4.2-2) and Netgear FA311

Should I just return the God-forsaken card and get an Intel EtherExpress?
Sweet Jesus, I've had a heck of a time setting this nightmare up.  Anyway...

I downloaded and complied the drivers from Netgear itself (aside:  the
drivers are made for 7.0, but they're the latest version I can find
anywhere) and attempted and "insmod fa311.o".  Of course, due to kernel
version conflicts, it failed -- horribly.

Anyone know where to get newer, compatible drivers or found a workaround?

Thanks,
Preston

You might want to take a look at:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/312

There is at least one confirmed posting for Mandrake 7.1 which I know isn't
RedHat but is close.  Another option might be to upgrade your kernel to a
newer version like 2.4.4. or 2.4.5 and cross your fingers hoping that a better
netgear driver made it into the newer kernel release.

See ya

RedHat 7.1 (kernel v2.4.2-2) and Netgear FA311

According to the netgear site there is a problem with come FA311 cards
reporting themselves as Fa312 cards. This could be the cause of the problem.

There is a fix here

http://www.netgear.com

Then Products->Desktop/PC Server cards->Fa311,Support

sorry their site doesn't support direct URLs.

Ignore the stuff about windows the fix is valid anyway.

1. Netgear FA311 (DP83815D rev:B1) and Redhat 7.1

Why doesn't my Netgear FA311 (chipset DP83815D board rev B1) work with
Redhat 7.1?

It detects it when I boot but I get messages in /var/log/messages:

Red Hat Linux release 7.1 (Seawolf)
Kernel 2.4.2-2 on an i686
login: root
Password:

Aug 31 16:45:41 proxy ifup: Delaying eth1 initialization.
Aug 31 16:45:41 proxy network: Bringing up interface eth1:  failed
Aug 31 16:58:32 proxy insmod:
/lib/modules/2.4.2-2/kernel/drivers/net/tulip/tulip.o: insmod eth1 failed

It seems like Linux is looking for the wrong driver.  The natsemi.o driver
is present on the system.
