PPP works only in one direction

PPP works only in one direction

Post by Konrad Hinse » Mon, 06 Jan 1997 04:00:00

I am trying to connect my Laptop (RedHat Linux 3.03 updated to kernel
2.0.0, ppp-2.2.0f-1) via a null modem cable to a Linux box at work
(RedHat Linux 4.0, kernel 2.0.18, ppp-2.2.0f-2). After starting pppd
on both sides manually, ifconfig reports a working connection on both
sides, and the routing tables look fine. I can also do a ping from the
desktop machine to the laptop, but a ping in the other direction doesn't
work:

  ping: sendto: Permission denied
  ping: wrote 192.168.0.0 64 chars, ret=-1

Nothing else (telnet, ftp, etc.) works in any direction.

Any idea of what's going wrong?
