HELP! MX Problem

Hi,

I cannot receive any mail on our mail server running Linux 2.0.25.
The mail server is identical to the dns2 of domain.com. (note: the
affected domain name and ip addresses have been changed for anon, please
note I also set the expiry time to 1 hour for testing purposes, this is
intentional).
dns1 holds the following records for mx and dns2:

; BIND version named 4.9.4-P1 Thu Oct 17 14:42:59 CEST 1996

; zone 'domain.com'   last serial 31
; from 194.231.54.228   at Sat Mar  1 11:33:12 1997
$ORIGIN com.
domain      IN  SOA dns1.domain.com. bi.domain.com. (
        33 3600 600 3600 3600 )
        IN  NS  dns1.domain.com.
        IN  MX  5 dns2.domain.com.
$ORIGIN domain.com.
dns1        IN  A   194.231.54.228
dns2        IN  A   194.231.54.226

Whenever I send a mail from my account on another machine on the
internet I receive the following error:

Date: Sat, 1 Mar 1997 11:35:00 +0100

Subject: Returned mail: Local configuration error

This is a MIME-encapsulated message

Could anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I'm at the end of my
already small wisdom....

Thanks!

add dns2 as a nameserver in your primary file

make sure that you have a cw file or cw listing in your sendmail.cf file
for your domain.

1. HELP SMAIL - MX - HELP HELP!

I'm tring to setup a "hop" situation, with Linux hooked up
directly to the internet and an external site needing mail feed.
I would like to set it up so that I can mail anyone on the Internet
from this external site. (Which this seems to work OK) It's just the
backwards part. It won't detect a UUCP site in my path name.

That's problem Number one.

Number two: Whenever I mail someone that is not DIRECTLY CONNECTED
to the internet, it floats off to space, never getting to it's destination.
(When I say this, I mean someone else on the Internet who is a host for
another site via UUCP) For instance dragonbbs.com is a site I'm trying
to mail to. I know it's valid because I can do a 'whois' on it. But if

So.....

I can't use my site as a UUCP host to other sites, and I can't mail to other
sites who are clients of a host doing UUCP to there machines.

I heard that it is an MX record situation, but What does that mean for me?
I don't know how to fiddle with that in the source code, nor do I know how to
make it work with the routers file.

Is there anybody out there Intelligent enough to rescue me? Who will save the
day?

Truly an UNDERDOG.
