NFS problem from Solaris client to Linux server

Post by Fernand Jacint » Wed, 20 Jan 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

I am new in the Linux world... I am trying to put
Linux machine in our UNIX environment (SUN, HP and SGI).

I would like to set up Linux node as NFS server. It's
working correctly but sometimes i have the following message
in Solaris log file :

Jan 18 11:36:21 Solaris_node automountd[146]: No network locking on
linux_node : contact admin to install server change

When i have this error message, the acces to a file or directory
isn't possible. The very strange thing is that i can see the file
with a "ls" command but a simple touch and/or vi aren't ok. Futhermore,
the  problem occur sometimes and not always...

What's wrong ?

Solaris nodes are under 2.5 or 2.5.1 and linux node under
Redhat 5.2.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Fernand.

PS : Could you answer me via E-mail too ?

It is my understanding that the Linux networking does not
include a locking demon or something similar.  I also get this
message when mounting an exported Linux directory but I have always
been able to mount this directory.

So far I have just ignored the message.  This may be fixed with
the 2.2 kernel's, I'm not sure.
