Each time I boot my linux 7.1 redhat machine I must enter the ROUTE
ADD DEFAULT GW XXX.YYY.ZZZ.AAA to make it internet capable.  Who knows
the command to permanently add this route ?

Thanks in advance,

Newbie McLachlan !

I don't know the command but if you edit /etc/sysconfig/network file. Names
of fields are self explanatory.

The command can be placed in the /etc/rc.d/rc.local file at the bottom if you
wish to establish a route manually, or you might want to take a look at the
/etc/sysconfig/network file and specify the XXX.YYY.ZZZ.AAA as the GATEWAY
value and the network device to use for GATEWAYDEV.

Hang a tick, if this is a CISCO device which is running CISCO IOS, then you
will actually need to use the CISCO IOS directives to get your gateway/default
routing working.  From memory you will have to use a command similar to:

ip default-gateway AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD where AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD is the G/W
