Help with @HOME internet / Intel EtherExpress PRO 10

Post by joe morac » Sun, 16 Mar 1997 04:00:00

I was happily using Linux with PPP and it worked fine.  Well now I have
a super fast cable modem connected to a intel EtherExpress PRO /10 Lan
adapter and can't get it to work.

I am back to using WFW 3.11 which is supported by my cable provider.

I really can't get any Linux stuff to find the card.  I tried RH 4.1
boot.img / supp.img disk and they say I have no card.
It's at IRQ 5 and 0300 (I think)

Works great with WFW.

PS cable modem = the speed you need
can download at 35 to 65 instead of 2.3

Thanks   I about to reformat the Linux partions OH NO

Looking at what you say I'd guess you're using an eepro/10+. Forget
about bootdisks, you'll most probably need to recompile you kernel, (a
_very_ good idea in most cases anyway) as support for eepro cards is
still in the 'experimental' area. If it's a /10+, get the eepro.c from

Specify the exact parameters for your card.  The auto-detect function
for this card under linux doesn't work too good.

edit your /etc/rc.d/rc.modules

and the eepro line to reflect  your card's parameters

such as

/sbin/modprobe eepro io=0x240 irq=11

It worked for me.

You may also need to use the DOS configuration utility (what, no

Intel's web page.) to turn off Plug'n'Play on the card, and verify its
interrupt and port.

1. Install Intel EtherExpress Pro 10/10+ ISA card on Redhat 6.1 ---Please help

Hi,

I installed RedHat 6.1 on my PC(dual boot 98/Linux). Everything is fine
exception the RedHat can't recognize my ethernet card( Intel
EtherExpress ISA Pro 10/10+). The card works fine in 98.

During the installation, RedHat couldn't detect my card at all. So I
tried to load it manually. I tried two ways:
1. I put ether=5,0x210,0,0,eth0 ( the conf in my 98) in lilo.conf, then
reboot the machine. During the boot, lilo couldn't start eth0.
2. I run lsmod, I found nothing there. I do have
/lib/modules/2.2.12-20/net/eexpro.o file, so I said insmod eexpro. The
linux hangs forever. I have to power off the machine.

What did I do wrong? Please help!

Regards,
Michael
