Linux, PPP, AT&T WorldNet Help!

Post by Mat » Sun, 27 Oct 1996 04:00:00

I'm having trouble getting Linux to talk to Worldnet properly.  It dials fine,
and gives me a IP address, but as soon as I try to ping something outside my
own box, it disconnects.  Looking through the log, it shows that LCP rejected
and auth chap which is what Worldnet uses.   I have all the passwords in my
chap-secrets.  I tried specifying the chap option in my options file, but then
it won't even talk right at all

I have looked through the almighty faq page on this subject and followed all of
those direction, but it still won't work.

Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

Yes, I know that Data.

Worldnet does use CHAP, but the problem is, that my PC is sending the
server a LCP rejection of "auth chap".  This results in me not getting
authenticated, and thus as soon as I try to do something, the connection
drops. I am wondering how I can get my pc to talk chap.  I tried the
+chap option in the options file, but that made things worse.

I previously had a connection on the same box with the same software
working, going to internetMCI, but I ended up reinstalling linux, and
when I went to reconfiure for AT&T, I couldnt get it back up.  Somewhere,
I'm missing some little thing, and I can't seem to figure out what it is.

If you are using the user name and password that are associated with your
AT&T E-Mail account these are NOT your name and password. You have to set
up your account with their Windows software and there will be a small
file somewhere in the directory with the AT&T software (sorry but I forget
the exact name) which will give you your REAL info. Using this info I
believe AT&T uses CHAP and that should work.

I think the file is called 'reg.ini' however, i noticed that the new
worldnet software doesn't have all the information in it's reg.ini.
Does anyone know where it went in the new version?  Of course, it's
possible since I was already registered when I upgraded, the information
wasn't required.
