samba 2.0.6 & win 2k

hello I am trying to get win 2000 to talk to my linux server (redhat
6.2) with little
success...

im aiming to author a webpage using macromedia apps to the apache
/home/httpd driectory..
it would require share level access.......

my setup of the eth0 device was as such

IP                         192.168.1.1
Netmask             255.255.255.0
Network             192.168.1.0
Broadcast           192.168.1.255

Hostname            umberto
Prim DNS            192.168.1.1
Gateway             192.168.1.254

interestingly when i look at linuxconf  DNS sect... it reads

Pri DNS            202.53.36.190
Sec DNS            202.53.36.186

my /etc/hosts reads ...

127.0.0.1         umberto        umberto.localdomain         localhost
192.168.1.1    umberto

-------------------------

on the win 2000 box  ........

same as above except and ip of 192.168.1.2

-----------------

ive tried changing all combinations of the dns no's but success seems to

work with the lnuxconf ones
current state  currently i can ping the network address and get com
between to two ip addresses but windows cannot recognise the linux box
as a computer in network neighbourhood...

running samba swat tool        http://localhost:901

here is the cgf file

1. Samba & win 2k problems

hi all
can somebody please help me?
We have a linux (kernel 2.2.13) computer running samba on our network. It
has been running more or less OK for some time with assorted windows
clients. However the powers that be have decided we should have a microsoft
server.
So we have set up a windows 2K advanced server and this worked well on a
test network.
Now we have brought the 2K onto the same network as the linux and our client
computers are taking hours after starting before they can access files on
the linux computer.
It appears the linux computer is not authenticating the users and so wont
allow access to files.
They can browse to the shares but when they try to open the share they get a
message saying that the network device is unavailable.
After they do get access everything seems OK, but this is HOURS later :(
There is probably some setting either in samba or in windows that will make
them work together, but i'm pulling my hair out trying to find it.
