arp command dosen′t work!

Post by Gustavo Mende » Wed, 17 Jan 1996 04:00:00

When I try to map an hardware address to an IP address with the
arp command:

arp -s 210.48.64.21 00:00:C0:01:68:75 pub

it dosen't work, then I do it the same in a SunOS machine
and works.

can anybody tell me.
Is there a bug in the arp command in Linux?
Is there a new release of the arp command for Linux?

Thanks a lot

I'm using ProxyARP zith the same command and it works very well
(linux 1.2.13, slackware 3.0.0) !!!

How do you test if it works ?

What is PROXYARP ? I don't mean the concept, but in this context. Is
it a utility that outperforms 8-) "normal" arp -s" or what ??? I ask
because I have the same problem with setting up a static arp entry. My
specific problem (same syntax as Gustavo) is a message that indicates
a parameter error (don't have it here right now). My kernel is 1.3.58.

Usage: arp [-vn] [-p proto] [-t type] -a [hostname]
       arp [-v] [-p proto] -d hostname ...
       arp [-v] [-p proto] [-t type] -s hostname hw_addr [netmask aa.bb.cc.dd] [...

Try to reverse put your parameters in the right order !
