Cheap 10/100 NIC with good Linux support?

Post by Brendon Ra » Sat, 19 Feb 2000 04:00:00

I'm just getting started with Linux and I want to get a cheap 10/100
network card (sub-$20 at Pricewatch, which seems to be most non-3Com
cards) that will give me the least hassle in Linux. Any suggestions?

I've had good luck with the netgear cards - I think you can pick them up
between 20-30 US dollars retail.

Netgear? $19.95 usually. You get what you pay for, plain and simple!
Spending $49 on a Intel NIC will be more then worth it.

I got an Addtron AEF-360TX from buy.com for ~$13.  It was recognized the
first time in Mandrake 6.0.  YMMV.

Cheap 10/100 NIC with good Linux support?

Hi,

I have a D-Link DFE-530TX, bought for less than $20.00 at Best Buy. One
NIC works fine, I have not been able to detect the second NIC though.
If you are going to use only one, then the D-Link seems ok.

1. Good cheap 10/100 PCI NIC's on 3.2/3.3 FreeBSD

Hi All,

I know I'm asking a lot but does anybody know of good supported
production NIC's that will run on ether 3.2/3.3 FreeBSD.

I have used 3com 3C905B's in the past but had lots of problems with
3C905C's(install on 3.3).  The B series is hard to get.

Nor do I like the network boot bios that comes with the C series.

Anybody have input?
