guest/anonymous ftp setup problem

guest/anonymous ftp setup problem

Post by Ian Pack » Fri, 02 Feb 1996 04:00:00

Hello,

I want to setup a guest or preferably the anonymous ftp account to
allow uploads to incoming without having any other sort of access. The
man pages show a passwd file setup with /etc/ftponly as the shell
entry. I don't have this file - can anyone tell me what needs to be in
it to force ftponly access?

Thanks
Ian Packer

Give them a shell /bin/false and remote anon from /etc/ftpusers. You can
also do man ftpaccess.

Best wishes,
Alex

1. Anonymous FTP setup problem (ls command)

I've followed the anonymous ftp setup procedure from my slackware manual
which involved:

1. Create ftp user
2. mdkir /home/ftp
3. mkdir /home/ftp/etc (put modified group, passwd files)
4. mkdir /home/ftp/bin (copy ls command)
5. mkdir /home/ftp/lib (copy lib files needed by ls)
6. mkdir /home/ftp/dev (use mknod to create zero device)
7. mkdir /home/ftp/incoming (permissions for all to write)

I can log in as anonymous, but cannot see any files (although I can change
directories).  I looked at all the /etc/ftp* files and cannot find the
problem, also played with directory privledges with no results.  Maybe my
ls command is not setup right.  My version of ftp daemon is wu.ftp2.4.

Any help would be appreciated

John Gong
