This will work fine. The only thing that a current Novell network
provides
to your mars server is the network address. If you don't provide a
network
address it may sit around until you can provide one.
Look in /etc/nwserv.conf. You'll have something along the lines of:
#3 INTERNAL_NET [NODE] # the internal network number and
optional node
#3 auto # autosetup
3 959B0A8C 1 # this is what auto USED to produce!
(backwards)
#4 NET_NUMBER DEVICE FRAME TICKS
4 0x00000101 eth0 802.2 1
4 0x00080101 eth0 802.3 1
4 0x0 ppp0 AUTO 7 # filter out RIP/SAP
4 0x0 * AUTO 1 # automatic setup of others
# can also have snap, ethernet_ii,token
In this I have explicitly set my internal network address and the
addresses for
802.2 and the 802.3 frame types (this is to prevent trouble from Win95
hosts).
If you do this you don't need a running Novell network. If another
Novell
server IS present on the same network you need to make sure that your
network
numbers match.
This means use a unique network number for your internal net and the
same numbers
for the other entries. The AUTO entries will allow ppp and any other
frame types
to be set dynamically as needed.
