You have to edit the files /etc/xinetd.d/ftpd and /etc/xinetd.d/telnetd.

Security through obscurity?
Better use ssh/scp.

Hi!,

You might have to change it in the /etc/services file although I wouldn't
suggest it. You want to take a look at the /etc/xinet.d/wu-ftpd file.
Additionally, you might also want to take a look at the man xinetd.conf file
and see whether or not the "port" command actuallt helps you out at all ?

You may actually have to provide parameters to the daemons themselves after
reading their man pages to see whether or not the port number needs to be
provided there as well.

See ya

How to change port numbers under redhat ?

Hi,

it depend what ftp or telnet server you are using. If system defaults..
then /etc/services will do. Note u might end up having problem with
general client application. Once change reboot system to update port
relocation or maybe try:

kill -HUP `pidof inetd`

bye

1. How to change port number for Proftpd

Hello,

I'm very new to linux and need some help.
I need to change the port number that Proftpd lisens on.  The default is 21,
but I need to set it to 2112.  I tried changing the inetd.conf, services,
proftpd.conf and proftpd.conf.master.  None of those worked.  Am I missing
something??  Any help would be appreciated..

Thanks.
