Newbie needs help for ppp

Post by Liu Chung Pin » Tue, 05 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Hi everybody,

I have two ISP accounts and I've set them up with linuxconf (RedHat 6.0).
For ppp0 I edited the Expected/Send sequence and I connect OK.  But for
ppp1, this ISP does not pass Login: and Password: prompt upon modem
answering.  To debug, I use minicom to dial up (ATDTXXXXX), when it gets
through the ISP sends some packets of binary characters as if those I get
after I enter ppp.  The ISP's helpdesk is helpless - they don't even seem to
know Linux.

To find out exactly what they want and how to give it to them.

Liu,
When configuring your accounts in linuxconf, try setting
them up and PAP accounts. This "should" solve your problem.

1. newbie needs help w/ppp 2.4.0b1 setup

after running SuSE linux on i386 for years, i recently bought
the solaris8 media pack for my sparcstation20.....i have been
spoiled by SuSE's setup/installation utilities, i've been trying
for several days to setup a dial-out ppp client to connect to my
isp. i have looked at several faq and HowTos on the subject, but
most seem to be geared toward the asppp that was bundled in earlier
releases. by reading the comments in the .tmpl files located
under /etc/ppp i have been able to sucessfully get the modem to dial
the isp, login, and retrieve my ip and dynamic dns addresses.
however there seems to be something wrong with the nameserver,
i can not do a nslookup, or ping the isp, netscape complains about
not being able to find hosts, etc.
does any one have a link to a good tutorial....one that uses this
particular ppp?
i have many other problems, but being unable to connect to the net
has sorely limitted my ability to search doc's, faq, etc...

TIA,
don

p.s. the release is 02/02 and i'm using le0 to connect to local
(in-house) LAN.
