PPP slow on telnet and rlogin.. why??

Post by Michael Panof » Sun, 15 Sep 1996 04:00:00

PPP works great when it comes to ftping and netscaping around,
but when I need to rlogin into a machine it's SLOW, so very
slow.  I have to wait many seconds before I can even see my typed
charecters appear on the terminal windows.

What is the cause of this??

Thnanks,
Mike Panoff

Try setting a smaller MTU (296 works well at 28.8).  As a general rule,
a smaller MTU == better interactive performance, a large one ==
better file transfers, at least for modem connections.

1. telnet, ftp very slow via ppp, why?

I have been using Linux 1.1.59 for many years and ppp works
perfect.

Recently, I tried to install a new version of Linux 1.2.13.
Everything is ok. Also ppp is connected.
The problem is that the speed becomes very very slow with
telnet, ftp, etc.

Does anybody  know the reason and how fix that?
Thank you.
